A lot of Options

“God can do anything, you know—far more than you could ever imagine or guess or request in your wildest dreams! He does it not by pushing us around but by working within us, his Spirit deeply and gently within us”. Eph 3:20 (The Message Bible)

A lot of Options

What a world we live in. A world filled with options. Options with cell phones, computers, careers, houses, jobs, religion and even wives. There used to be a time when working for a company for many years was considered honorable, but not to this day. We’ve seen too many people switch careers, jobs and houses. People doing what they don’t really like. Most of the time getting a job is exciting only till you really start working. In Canada I have seen a lot of very well educated folks do jobs that are even not close to their line of profession. Everyday people are pressed with the burden of making a living and letting go of their true desires because there are a lot of options. The bible says ‘In the last days knowledge shall increase’. It is, right before our very eyes. Has this ‘increase of knowledge’ coupled with a lot of options helped us make right decision or just left us confused?

How do we resolve this dilemma of Choice?

God says He will grant us the desires of our hearts. How will He grant us want we desire if we don’t really know what we want?

But thank God, He has made a provision in His Word to help us out. Jesus said “I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever- The spirit of truth…”. The working of the Spirit in us enables us to know the will of God in our lives. When we are in tune with Him, His desires become our desires and “whatever we ask that He will do”. In fact the above verse says that “God can do far more than you could ever imagine or guess or request in your wildest dreams..” Think about it for a second. We have been asking the Lord a lot of stuff, maybe even settling for little in our asking based on our circumstance and situation. But He is able to do beyond your expectation. Wow!! We are not left confused with the options the world throws at us. We have a guide and we have direction.

But how do we appropriate this? How do we keep up with this BLESSING?

1. Being Silent: The latter of the verse says that The Holy Spirit does not push us around. He is gentle and His work deep and gentle. We have to come to that place where we are silent and let Him do the work within us. The clutters of worldly options need to be dissolved within us.

2. Meditating on Scripture: Meditating means musing or reflecting. The bible is no story book. It’s a book filled with words that breaks through a person’s imagination.

3. Speaking: “Out of the abundance of the hearth the mouth speaks”. Our normal conversation has too much of the world in it. Too much of defeat and failure. Once the scriptures abide in us through meditation, our words will change.”. The Spirit of God will enable us to choose the right words.
